Jacob McGarry and Copper

Lesson student Jacob McGarry and his horse Copper.

After competing in my first horse show at the age of 1 year old, horses have been my life. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula, competing with stock type horses at the 4-H and open show level. After high school, I attended Michigan State University’s Institute of Agricultural Technology studying horse management. In 1998, I graduated from this program and was named the Outstanding Horse Management Student of the year. I continued my education at Michigan State and went on to get my Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. During my time at Michigan State, I was a member of the Institute of Agricultural Technologies Horse Judging Team, the MSU Equestrian Team, and was a board member of the MSU Horseman’s Association. During the summer of 1998, I started working for a Morgan Farm in Northville, Michigan as their Senior Instructor,  Summer Camp Director, and assisted with their training program for six years. In 2004 I began Twin Elm Training as a part-time traveling operation and over the years has developed into a full time, full service horse training and lesson program.
